Mommies in Need
Share about your mission and how your organization is making a difference in Dallas.
Mommies In Need provides childcare, community, and compassion to parents going through a health crisis. We believe that no parent should have to choose between taking care of their own health and having safe and loving care for their children.
We currently provide our services with our in-home program in which MIN sends specially trained, background-checked, and CPR-certified nannies into the homes of our families to care for the children and create a community of support around the families. To date we have provided over 50 families in Dallas with over 20,000 hours of free childcare!
Mommies In Need is also collaborating with Parkland Hospital to open a drop-in facility for Parkland patients, slated to open in 2020.
The center, called Annie's Place and named after the very first MIN Mommy, will be on the Parkland campus and be able to care for 60-75 children a day. The population served at that center will be largely from low-income families and we are developing partnerships with other non-profit groups to make a greater impact on these children. Educational First Steps is helping us to develop a curriculum that will focus on social-emotional learning, pre-literacy, STEM, art, and early financial literacy. As we build Annie's Place at Parkland, we are doing everything with replication in mind and hope to have additional facilities in other hospitals in North Texas in the next five years.
How is your cause celebrating North Texas Giving Day?
Our sponsor this year is Comerica Bank, who is not only putting up $10,000 in matching funds, but also hosting an "After School Fun Fest" to celebrate Giving Day! All are invited to join us on September 19 from 2-6pm at the Comerica Bank at Mockingbird and Abrams. We will have cotton candy, glitter tattoos, carnival games, and more! Plus, to highlight the collaborative spirit of Giving Day, we have invited many other non-profits to join us and bring fun activities to the celebration, including a special visit by the mini-horses from Equest!
Have you participated in North Texas Giving Day in past years? What was your experience?
Yes! MIN LOVES Giving Day. This will be our fifth time participating and we have grown it into our largest fundraiser of the year! We do lots of fun stunts to encourage donations, so follow our Facebook page so you don't miss our videos.
Other than a donation, how can individuals and groups support your cause?
We have several events coming up for which we need volunteers plus a few ongoing volunteer roles- if you are interested in helping, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
